My only complaint about the album is, yeah, no Dennis songs; and the absence of a few other favorites that I assume were part of the standard live diet back then. Long Promised Road should have been on the album (is Trader the only Carl song on the album?). A couple of songs with Dennis at the piano - Only With You, Forever, or even one of those unreleased songs he was doing in some of the shows. A live Surf's Up would have been a nice inclusion. I like this one about the same as Beach Boys 69 or whatever it's called (although the songs do feel a bit rushed on that). Some of these issues can hopefully be one day rectified by a deluxe edition. But, considering the album's title doesn't rhyme with Wet Rounds, I'm not holding my breath.

All of the Capitol albums got the bonus track treatment, but the Reprise ones remain untouched.
I just checked the running time for In Concert. It's about 76 minutes, so realistically, there's only room for one more song on the CD. The MIC boxed set showed that a second In Concert CD could (should!) be assembled.

I remember reading on some board at some point that there had been plans for including bonus tracks and whatnot, but I can't for the life of me remember the explanation of why it didn't happen.
Regardless, we're getting into that territory for copyright releases anyway, so hopefully (very soon) we'll have the first such fruits.

In the Beach Boys world, nothing surprises me. Although, if they finally released an expanded In Concert, or the full live anthology I've been wishing for, I might die of shock.

Any comments on the album cover? How ironic to feature Dennis as the ONLY Beach Boy on the cover when he is barely audible. Does he play any instruments?

Any comments on the album cover? How ironic to feature Dennis as the ONLY Beach Boy on the cover when he is barely audible. I like the album cover a lot. I like that it's Dennis on the cover (at least they gave him that!). The colors/mood seem to match the music. Does he play any instruments? Yeah, I've read that Dennis played moog, electric piano, and clavinet. Don't expect me to point out where and when. That's part of the problem for me. As good as this album is, they're hardly a self-contained band anymore. Ideally, the core 5 guys would walk out on stage and perform. That's what I'd be most interested in. By this period they had, what, 10-15 performers onstage? No Brian. No Dennis on drums. No Bruce or David. They'd changed a lot. That's allowed. But, who became a Beach Boys fan due to Blondie, Ricky, or any of the touring members?

In Concert: 7/10
I listened to it earlier today, and the highlights were: - Marcella - Heroes & Villains - Let The Wind Blow - Surfin' USA - Wouldn't It Be Nice - Caroline, No - You Still Believe In Me
Great vocal performances from Carl on "Let The Wind Blow" and "Caroline, No". (Fortunately, the ridiculously dated keyboard noodling on "Caroline, No" doesn't ruin the song for me.)

Simply put, I could remove "Funky Pretty", "We Got Love", "Leaving This Town", and even "The Trader", and replace them with five other Beach Boys' classics (or even a few other post-Pet Sounds songs), and I guarantee it would be a much stronger album.
Obviously, we could come up with dozens of songs that would have been cool to hear, but the one song that came to mind while listening today was "Custom Machine". They could have pulled off a killer version during this era. Would have been an exciting addition.

My friend at the record store where I bought this, circa 1991, said "it looks like Dennis is pissing on the audience". It annoyed me there was no full track listing anywhere on the cover.

I think I read somewhere that, like most of the Beach Boys' Reprise albums, In Concert was originally rejected or had to be re-configured before it was released. Maybe they rushed the art work, not knowing the final tracklisting?
It "looks like" Dennis? Ha ha. I guess most people knew that was Dennis, even though the photo wasn't clear. But then again, most fans expected to see him behind the drums. I'm not the biggest fan of the album cover, especially with the blue Indian/logo plastered on the front, which doesn't seem to coordinate with the photo (but I'm not a graphic artist by any means). I would've put the back cover photo on the front.

I don’t think the “looks like” was meant to express doubt that it’s Dennis, but on what he was doing (pissing on the audience).

Actually, I've read other descriptions of what Dennis was doing, too...

Is this the best live version of "Good Vibrations"? How does it compare to the 1974 version released on Songs From Here & Back? I don't have that CD. SJS, I'd like to see your Ultimate Live playlist. Either here or a new thread for best/favorite live versions of songs.
