I always enjoyed when he sang Warmth of the Sun during BB's shows. And "Don't Worry Baby". It seemed that the band started to feature more of those older songs with the difficult Brian vocals when Jeff Foskett joined the band. Not that Carl (or sometimes Al) couldn't handle them, but Jeff seemed to sing them more naturally, not going into the "Mickey Mouse" zone, and as you mentioned, made the song a highlight of the show.
Here's a good one with Jeff:

I wasn’t a fan during his pre-solo Wilson BBs years but I thought he was fabulous during those first years with Wilson.
In fact, DWB is a song for some reason I always disliked until hearing it live in June 2001, obviously with Foskett at least on the high parts. (I don’t recall whether Brian was still handling some parts.) Literally brought tears to my eyes, this song I didn’t like. Which of course I loved thenceforth!
(Then I got home after the Paul Simon section of the concert and watched the NBA Draft, which I’d taped on vhs. Brian got me to skip the draft! Not easy to do.)

I miss out on a lot of news on the BB side of that "other board" because I feel dwarfed by all the erudite types over there (okay, most of them). So I tend to slink in, say my little piece and slink off again, which means a lot of things pass me by.
So I only found out recently what terrible stuff Jeff is going through. I was lucky enough to see him a decade ago with Brian and a couple of years back with Mike and Bruce. A classy musician and singer if ever there was one. I wish him all the best with the dreadful situation he's in right now.

It looks bad, I know, but the fact is, the ambience here is far less competitive. I'm not putting folks over there down as people (I have no quarrel with any of them), otherwise I wouldn't still be posting there after eight and a half years. Let's say I feel less out of my depth over here and more willing to stick my neck out. That's meant as a compliment, dammit!

I kid, I kid. I may not be particularly erudite, but I do have a sense of humor! (And no, we're not particularly competitive in these parts.)
On the topic, I'm hoping we'll end up hearing some good news from Mr. Foskett.

God I hope so too, although the tone of the recent Rolling Stone article is extremely worrying.

To jk and anybody else who is lurking, we'll talk about anything here. And, if you can't find a thread for it, feel free to start one!

God I hope so too, although the tone of the recent Rolling Stone article is extremely worrying. Yeah, after reading the article I Googled Anaplastic thyroid cancer. That is a VERY serious form of cancer, not your typical thyroid cancer. Again our thoughts are with Jeff.

Hopefully his spirit is holding up, whatever the specifics of what he's facing.
I only ever saw him with the BW band, but I did see him in person in that context probably half a dozen times. He always performed really well, occasionally seemed to be a shoulder for Brian to lean on, and was even quite funny on at least one occurrence.
On the TLOS tour, Brian introduced "Sail On, Sailor" in really negative terms. He mentioned the lyrics, and then said a couple times that he really just didn't like the song at all. It was actually quite shocking to hear an artist introduce his own song so negatively! Even the band were kind of looking at one another, like, uh...now what? Jeff joked around, but also seemed to comfort Brian, "you know, we don't have to do the song!" Brian acquiesced and they did a perfectly serviceable version.
(I'm with Brian on that one: I don't much like it, either.)
