I always thought any comparisons between John and Paul's work tends to be unfair since their styles are so different. Have you ever listened to Ray Charles' "The Spirit of Christmas." There's a moment in that song, after Ray sings "The blessed way that he came to us / Why can't it remain" where his back up singers sing a wordless "OH" melody that's very similar to "War is Over / If You Want It." I know John was a fan of Ray, so I always wondered if he subconsciously or consciously took that melody. Whoa! kds with some obscure Christmas music trivia. First a long, detailed list and now this. I love it!
No, I'm not familiar with Ray Charles' Christmas music but I'll check it out.
It got on my radar from being used in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, in the scene where Clark is watching home movies in his attic.

In 1994, Johnny Cash and his wife, June Carter Cash, appeared on the TV show, Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, starring Jane Seymour. It was a Thanksgiving episode, and Johnny's character was Kid Cole, who sang this song, "Thanksgiving Prayer", to June's character, Sister Ruth. The song was written by the show's producer, Josef Anderson. Guitarist Bob Wooten of The Tennessee Three acted as Johnny's stunt double for the show.

This is awesome! (Maybe I still have Queen on the brain but the cold weather - outdoors - in the woods video made me think of the videos for We Will Rock You and Spread Your Wings.)

Due to SJS and bellbottoms mentioning The Ventures' Christmas Album, I decided to give this album a try. I've listened to it about 3 times over the past week, it's very enjoyable. Also, as an instrumental album, I figured it would be the perfect album to kick off (and ease into) the Christmas season. My favorite song is "Rudolph, The Red-Nosed Reindeer"" which incorporates "I Feel Fine". I think it's really cool how they did that throughout the album. Here's a list put together by a poster at SHF - forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/the-ventures-christmas-album-cd.627065/page-2#post-20143886

How about a little love for Ringo Starr's Christmas album? I woke up to a winter wonderland this morning, and I LOVE this version of that song!

Hard to believe its the only official full on Christmas album in the overall Beatle canon. I do like the version of Christmastime Is Here Again.

Yeah that’ one’s good, and so is “Come On, Christmas, Christmas Come On” which even though it’s basically a rip off of the Hey Song, I can’t help but love it. The whole album is pretty fun, a few “huh?” moments aside. Dear Santa and I Wanna Be Santa Claus are both so good.

I was gonna post this in the compilations thread, but it might fit better here. Yes, kds, it's hard to believe that Ringo is the only Beatle to record a Christmas album. Actually, there is very little other Christmas music from the Fab Four. That is surprising because The Beatles sent out spoken and musical Christmas messages on flexi discs to their fan club members from 1963-1969. I really wanted to have some kind of Beatles' Christmas sampler to play each year, so with a little splicing of The Beatles' Fan Club Christmas releases, Ringo's Christmas album, and a few solo songs from the other three, I came up with this Beatles' Christmas comp:
Christmas with John, Paul, George, Ringo...and Yoko
Side 1 1. This Is To Wish You - The Beatles
2. Wonderful Christmas Time - Paul McCartney 3. Christmas Time (Is Here Again) - The Beatles 4. Listen The Snow Is Falling - John Lennon & Yoko Ono 5. Ding Dong, Ding Dong - George Harrison
Side 2 1. Happy Christmas, Happy New Year - The Beatles 2. Rudolph, The Red-Nosed Reindeer - Ringo Starr 3. The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire) - Paul McCartney 4. Everywhere It's Christmas - The Beatles 5. Happy Xmas (War Is Over) - John Lennon & Yoko Ono

If I knew then what I know now.....
The Fab Four Hark album was originally released in a two volume CD set (why they released an album totaling less than 50 minutes on two discs, I'll never know) back around 2003. I bought a copy, and later on, the album was selling for big bucks on Amazon. Had I known, it would eventually be re-released on one volume, I'd have parted ways with my copy.
But, for some reason, it looks like Hark leaves of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (I Saw Her Standing There).

There's another tribute band, Rubber Band, who did a Christmas album using Beatles' songs as the blueprint for the songs. This is one of the best songs on the album:

Here's a recording that slipped under the radar in Beach Boys' history. Collin Raye performed "Sloop John B" on Stars And Stripes in 1996. Collin and the guys then recorded this version of "Winter Wonderland" for Collin's album, The Gift. The album was produced by acclaimed Nashville keyboardist, John Hobbs.

Luther posting in the Christmas music thread!? Hmmm ... maybe he's just messing with KDS!
Taylor Swift released a new Christmas song, "Christmas Tree Farm." And you know what? Classic pop (meaning rock and roll pop, not modern electro pop) sound. Not half bad, actually, stiff drum machine style sound notwithstanding. Not a fan of most of her music--especially her recent music--I actually kind of like this.
