Every board needs one of these, right? (I didn't see one...)
For when you’ve had “that kind of a day”.
Not gonna complain about it. Well, except for the cold and snow, that’s always fair game. This frigid “Janvember” nonsense can take a hike. There is way too much snow out there for it to only be November 13.
So, I’m warming up with a wee dram of McClelland Islay. Kind of a “low shelf” single malt but it’ll do, it’ll do.

We got snow here today, too. Not much, maybe an inch, but it's enough to be frustrating, especially since it has been 30-40 degrees lower than typical weather. (Yesterday with wind chill factored in, the high never exceeded zero. Zero Fahrenheit, that is, not just freezing.) It has been cold and wet here generally for months. Pretty depressing, actually. But it could be much, much worse, so I'll try not to complain much.
And what the heck, to flip it and say nice things about work (for a change), I'll say that recently I've been doing a lot of group trainings, which I actually enjoy. It's like performing, and allows for some interaction, some humor, some schtick. (Now I can complain about work for the next few years again.)

Yeah, it’s snowing here, yet again. If this keeps up, it’s going to be a loooooonnnnng winter.
It’s always nice when you get to do something you enjoy at work, cheers to that. We lost one of our most talented graphic designers yesterday, who also happened to be a really good, nice person to have around. People like that are irreplaceable.

This is why I saw fall is overrated.
Early fall is nice, but my (usually late) November, it's basically winter. Cold, dark, gray, long, winter.

Sorry, waking up to 20 degree weather bummed me out a bit. Luckily, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and football get me through early winter.

I'm cooking a turkey today. No special occasion.

Nice. I think turkey is a highly underused food. People seem to think it's for holidays only (except in its cold-cuts form), but it's a great and pretty inexpensive meat.
I love making soups, and frozen in individual servings, they make great workday lunches. So today I've got a cabbage and white bean (with ham hock) soup simmering now (with onions, carrots, celery, garlic, etc.). Tomorrow I'm going to do a chili.
After raking yet another 16 bags of leaves, I'm going to be taking it easy the rest of today. (I've still got one tree that has at least 3/4 of its leaves, though. I fear I've got another round ahead.)

Yeah, it's funny how turkey tends to get reserved for big holidays and such, considering it's really one of the easiest things to make, and can go quite far. Soup is the perfect cold weather meal, and definitely on the agenda for tomorrow - I'm thinking turkey corn chowder (though I have to say, cabbage and white bean with ham sounds really good too!) But today I'm just going to roast up some carrots, celery and radishes for a side, and do a rich gravy with buttered sage for hot turkey sandwiches.
You know, I don't mind raking, it's one of the autumn chores I always kind of enjoy on a nice day... some tunes, some hot chocolate or a hot toddy, and filing up a few bags. But since we moved, our one little tree barely sheds enough to fill a bag (not complaining, really) and this year, it all blew away, and then the snow arrived.

Oh, I just despise raking! My girlfriend doesn't mind it, but I hate it. I wonder if it's a height thing: at almost 6-4, the constant bending over to bag them leaves me with a sore back. Or maybe I'm just a crybaby. Very, very possible. While the yard isn't big, I've got a couple medium-large trees, and the neighbors on either side have big trees. Gets to be a lot. I think in total I've probably done about 45-50 bags this fall.
Turkey is great in the re-usability! As you said, roast turkey one day, sandwiches (or tacos / enchiladas / burritos etc.) another, soup another... In recent years I've become a big fan of making my own stock. Wilting veggies, poultry carcass or meat bones, a handful of herbs in season, and a little time. I used to think it must be hard because it takes time, but it's not as if the actual work takes more than a few minutes. The stove does it all! And then a handful of containers of frozen stock on hand all the time? Love it.

Yeah as a petite person I guess being closer to the ground could make handling a rake less uncomfortable, I never thought of that. My husband is 6'2'' and not a fan of raking either.

Random take with the Christmas season fast approaching (or is it already here?)
Can we, as a society, please move on from the "Is Die Hard a Christmas movie?" debate. Christ, it's been going on every year for the last six, seven, whatever years. If you want to put Die Hard in your Christmas movie rotation, that's fine. If you just consider it an action movie that takes place at Christmas, that's fine too. But, for the love of Frosty the Snowman, shut the hell up about it!!!

Haven't seen that one make the rounds yet, but there's still plenty of time. Some traditions die harrrr.....errr... sorry, LOL. Besides, everyone knows the real question is whether or not Gremlins is a Christmas movie! Juuuuust kidding. All signs point to the Christmas season having officially kicked off by the presence of Christmas trees for sale at my local grocery store. I mean they smell great and all... but as someone who has always had an artificial tree, how long does a real tree last? If you put up a real tree now, wouldn't it lose its freshness and start to shed needles by the time Christmas actually rolls around?

But, Gremlins and Lethal Weapon did the non traditional Christmas movie thing well before Die Hard. I guess those aren't as edgy. When I was growing up, we used to get a real tree, but usually not until around Dec 15. I'm sure there are probably additives you can put in the water to keep them fresh longer these days.
