I'd like to see that parody review, if anyone can find it. Heck, they could even do one of Unleash the Love, and I wouldn't be offended.

I was just thinking of Beavis and Butthead reviewing Smile. "The Old Master Painter? don't you mean the Old Master Baiter? huh-huh..."

No Pier Pressure - 7/10
A 7 is a very respectable rating. Especially for a late career solo release by someone who has been through as much as Brian has. I purchased (and listen to) the 16-song deluxe version and I like nearly every song. My favorites are "Tell Me Why", "One Kind Of Love", "Whatever Happened", "Sail Away", "This Beautiful Day", "Somewhere Quiet", and "I'm Feeling Sad" (in that order). My least favorites are "Half Moon Bay", "Our Special Love", and "Runaway Dancer" (in that order). The rest is enjoyable.
There are many ways to nitpick this album, but I think the overall quality rises above those imperfections. It's a solid and, frankly, impressive album. Not his best, not his worst. Nowhere near the Beach Boys best, nowhere near their worst.

This was the first album that I was really able to follow it's development and progression from start to finish. I was looking forward to the Jeff Beck involvement (Run James Run is a favorite of mine), but I was generally pleased with how the album turned out. It's probably because of the guests artists, but it sounds refreshingly contemporary in a way that Beach Boy related albums in the preceding 20-25 years didn't. I was one of the few people who liked Runaway Dancer, and while I've since cooled off on it, it was nice to play a BB related song without getting the usual groans from my friends who aren't into the Boys. Including the bonus tracks, I still really like every song on the album aside from Our Special Love and the Last Song. Even those I listen to on a rare occasion, although the autotune (or excuse me, whatever autotune like program was applied) on the former really killed my interest in it. On the latter, I really wanted to hear Lana Del Rey sing it, too bad it didn't work out.
I went back and forth for a while on whether or not this was his best solo effort, but overall I'd have to place it above TLOS today. I want to give a 9, but an 8 is probably more fair.

That's true. Perhaps, NPP was just a tipping point. I recall two posters did a Beavis and Butthead skewering of NPP, and predictably, considering the lack of humor in the BB online world, it did not go over well. I got shit on for singing the praises of NPP while criticizing two songs. God forbid, you don't compare every Brian release to Pet Sounds. But, BB fans tend to be a very sensitive bunch. I seem to remember it got a really positive response, then a certain female who knew Brian back in the '70s took offense, then the usual suspects came out of the woodwork and it predictably went downhill from there.

Here you go, I had a good time rereading it! smileysmile.net/board/index.php/topic.23762.0.htmlEdit: For some reason the link is redirecting to the home page, but you can find it by going to Google and typing in "Bubs & Judd Review No Pier Pressure."

My link to it above works, if you’d rather not search. It’s on the word “this.”

Yep, overall, the response was positive, with a negative post here and there, but then people chose to dwell on the not so positive posts.

Just think if No Pier Pressure would've served as a follow-up to That's Why God Made The Radio. I know...woulda, shoulda, coulda. Just for the fun of it:
The Beach Boys - This Beautiful Day
Side 1 1. This Beautiful Day 2. I'm Feeling Sad 3. The Right Time 4. Somewhere Quiet 5. Sail Away
6. Half Moon Bay 7. Ram Raj
Side 2
1. Tell Me Why 2. Don't Worry 3. Whatever Happened 4. Too Cruel
5. One Kind Of Love 6. The Last Song
Produced by Brian Wilson and Joe Thomas Running Time: 42:47

“Saturday Night...” with Al on lead would’ve been fabulous.

“Saturday Night...” with Al on lead would’ve been fabulous. That would've worked. I like the song a lot. Might've even made a good single.

I happened to hear it one night at a local mall on their instore satellite. It's too bad, it didn't crack any NPP setlists in 2015 (but freakin' Runaway Dancer did).

Someone else would’ve had to sing it: Al, Darian or Matt. (Actually I’m not sure Al could nail the high parts in the third quarter of each verse live, so probably Matt or Darian.)
