Regarding the above interview with Stephen Colbert, it's interesting that the topic of the Abbey Road 50th Anniversary set never came up, and it was about to be released in a couple of days. I thought that was why Paul was appearing on the show in the first place. Colbert even "opened the door" when he said he thought the photo of John and Paul (displayed during the interview) was taken as John and Paul were collaborating on the Abbey Road "long medley".

Two new songs this morning from Mr. McCartney.
The A side, "Home Tonight," is a pleasant, downright catchy number but with so little substance to or variation within it, it feels a little long.
The B side, "In a Hurry," is a lot more interesting in my opinion. It opens as a baroque sort of semi-ballad, really pretty but moves into disco. Strings and horns abound. I really enjoy it.

Always nice to hear new (well, kind of) Paul McCartney music.
"Home Tonight" - This sounds a little "poppier" than most of the other Egypt Station tracks but I like it. It sounds like a combination of a couple of old Paul solo songs. I hear some Flaming Pie influence which is a good thing.
"In A Hurry" - This one doesn't sound so much like previous Paul. Good vocal and bass by Paul. This song could be catchy with repeated listens. Not crazy about the start-and-stop ending, though.

Not crazy about the start-and-stop ending, though. Agreed. Personally I can always do without the fake crowd noises in studio recordings, too.

I'm pleasantly surprised, and impressed, by "Home Tonight" and "In A Hurry". They both would have improved Egypt Station. I might go as far to say that they're both among Paul's best of the 21st century (for instance, top 25-30). Man, I'll never tire of Paul's bass playing and the sound he gets.

Wouldn't it be nice if the Long Promised Road documentary turned out like this:

I thought Lady Madonna was an odd choice. Maybe he wanted to do something upbeat and I get it, but a lot of the other artists went for comforting ballads, and it would have been a perfect opportunity for him to do Let It Be.

My understanding was that it had a connection between (particularly female) caretakers and his mother as a midwife and nurse during the war. But it certainly doesn't jump out as an obvious choice.
That said I wish fewer people were making obvious choices these days. Being beaten over the head with reminders of what we all already know or are experiencing is unnecessary.

That's a good point and I agree it's nice to hear something unexpected, but I also think with the theme of that particular event and the global audience, that something a bit more standard would have actually been more meaningful.

I'm planning a Beatles Medley for this Saturday's balcony mini-concert and "LM" is a great addition.
