It was hard enough getting used to Brian's gray hair, now this...

Cut him some slack, he’s in his later 70s! I had some grey above the ears by the time I was 40.

Did Paul finally stop dying his hair? I remember he was starting to go gray in the 1990s. But, when he came out for the Concert for NY in 2001, he sported suddenly much darker hair.

Yeah, he's been dyeing his hair for years, since the 1980's. However, in the past year, he's been letting his bangs, the hair around his temples, and his sideburns go gray. I've seen this "look" with some other aging rockers including Steven Tyler and Joe Perry. I figured it was a way of acknowledging that you're older now and the gray hair is inevitable, but you're not ready to go...completely gray yet. With this recent picture of Paul (taken two days ago) it looks like he's ready to take the plunge. Makes me feel old, older than I already am.

I say go natural, Paul! Generally, when I see people--celebrities or otherwise--taking dramatic anti-aging steps, I think they look ridiculous.

Yesterday, I decided to give Chaos and Creation another listen after many years as I recently saw it listed very highly on a ranking of Paul's albums.
About five songs in, I regretted my decision.

I saw a Macca tribute band Saturday night, they call themselves Wings 'N' Things. Amazing selection of songs - Penny Lane, Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey, All My Loving (I really focused on the guitar playing in that one), Junior's Farm, Every Night, Got to Get You Into My Life, Venus and Mars, Rock Show, and they nailed all the parts, vocal and instrumental. I think the newest song played was Coming Up.

Maybe he doesn't feel he can do the high vocals on the "live a little, be a gypsy" part.

Maybe he doesn't feel he can do the high vocals on the "live a little, be a gypsy" part. Wings 'N' Things did it perfectly - every effect, every change in tempo, the voices. I congratulated them on a masterful performance. A couple years ago, they did the complete Wings Over America setlist - yes, even the Jimmy McCulloch and Denny Laine songs - to commemorate the Wings 1976 show in Seattle's Kingdome. I was never 'into' tribute bands before, other than seeing 1964 and Rain a few times. But now the big time shows are so expensive, and so many of the artists I like are gone; if a band can capture the sound and feeling of the music and not sound like a parody, I will go see them.

To some extent, that is part of my justification of Brian Wilson's solo shows: that band is absolutely amazing every night. Unfortunately those shows are marred by their (increasingly infrequent) lead vocalist. But as I've been saying for probably 10 years--and I still mean it--I think I'd rather see a Brian Wilson Band show than a Brian Wilson show.

Unfortunately, it was in the aftermath of Ronnie's death.

Paul appearing on Stephen Colbert last week. Funny, sharp as a tack, and looking great:
