I believe this is the third Pink Floyd thread I've started on BB boards (maybe four, I can't remember if I started the one on SSMB). But, I figured today was a good day to start one here since I'm still buzzing about the incredible concert I attended in DC last night, Nick Mason's A Saucerful of Secrets.
I bought tickets a few months ago, and as I was making the drive from Baltimore to DC last night, fully knowing I had to wake up at 5:15 this morning, I was thinking "What in the world am I doing? Driving to Washington DC on a Monday night to see Nick Mason? Am I that much of a Floyd fanatic?"
Well, the answer is YES. After the two hour, 21 song set, I was blown away. For anyone not familiar with this band Nick has put together, he also plays pre Dark Side of the Moon material. I heard songs last night that I never imagined I've ever hear in person when I first really got into Floyd just over 20 years ago - Astronomy Domine, Remember a Day, Atom Heart Mother, Let There Be More Light, Fearless, Obscured by Clouds / When You're In, A Saucerful of Secrets, Childhood's End, Point Me at the Sky, The Nile Song, See Emily Play, and Arnold Layne among others. Many of those songs I actually hadn't listened to in several years.
So, I'm glad I went to see this unique tour, as when Nick started playing them last year, many of these songs had not been played in concert by a Floyd member since the early 70s, if ever.
I've now seen Roger Waters and Nick Mason. I'm still hoping out hope that David Gilmour tours one of these days (get it?).

Wow, sounds like a great concert! Of all of the Pink Floyd members, did you ever think Nick Mason would tour AND put on a show like that? How was the audience - were they really into it (I've never been to a Floyd-related show)? As a big fan of The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn and those other early songs, I would've appreciated that setlist. I'm glad you went; we've talked about it a lot of these BB boards. You don't know how much longer these great artists are going to be around so you have to see them while you can.

He's the only member of the band who decided to write an autobiography. And I think he knew that there was a void in the Floyd live universe since the Pre Dark Side was mostly ignored by Floyd, Gilmour, and Waters for decades. The crowd was into it. But, only Floyd aficionados are even going to know who Nick Mason is, and those aficionados I think know the catalog enough to be excited by a full set of songs that aren't featured on classic rock radio. Having attended five Waters shows over the years, I did find it annoying when fans in the audience would stand up and whoop it up when he'd do the familiar Floyd material, but then grow restless and start annoyingly talking loudly when he'd do material from Animals, The Final Cut, or his solo career.

Since the show I attended was the last night of the tour, I was kinda hoping Roger would do the same, but no such luck.

The fact that Gilmour is selling his guitars doesn't exactly make me feel like I'll be seeing one of his shows come to the Mid Atlantic anytime soon.

Didn't know whether to put this in the Pink Floyd thread or the NFL thread.

As a lifelong Baltimorean, I don't have much positive to say about Jim Irsay. But, at least he didn't steal the guitar from Gilmour in the middle of the night.

I grew up a Baltimore Colts' fan. As a little kid I had a blue and white Colts' uniform complete with helmet. In 3rd grade writing class, we had to write a letter to a "celebrity" of our choice. I wrote a letter to Johnny Unitas and got an autographed 8x10 photo back (I think I still have it somewhere). Later, Bert Jones was my favorite player - the Ted Marchibroda years. I was heartbroken when the team moved - as you stated - in the middle of the night. I refused to follow the Colts after that and became a Philadelphia Eagles' fan!

I was three and a half when they moved, so I basically grew up without a team until the Ravens in 1996 when I was in HS. My father almost became an Eagles fan in 1993 because they were apparently one of the few years who favored Baltimore for an expansion team in 1993. Back to Irsay, when the Browns moved to Baltimore, Art Modell approached Irsay about bringing the Colts name, uniforms, and history back to Baltimore. Irsay was willing to do it for $50M. So, Baltimore had to start with a new identity, and we still see those brilliant horseshoe helmets come to Baltimore as visitors. But, it was refreshing how all of the Colts legends turned their backs on the Irsays, even in the years when Baltimore was without a team. John Mackey even refused to go to Indy to accept his HOF ring, opting instead to accept it an a Saints / Dolphins exhibition game that was in Baltimore during the expansion campaign.

I always thought that a team's name - like the "Colts" - should've stayed with the city it originated in, and not moved on to a city where the team moved to. It always appeared awkward and a slap in the face to the original, previous fans/city. The Utah Jazz?

LA Lakers?
While I don’t know anything about the birds of Arizona, I’ve never gotten the hang of the Arizona Cardinals either, especially with the baseball version still in St Louis.

Both of Baltimore's sports teams are from relocated franchises, but the names were changed when they moved to Baltimore. In baseball, there has been some form of Baltimore Orioles in existence since around 1884 - four different franchises. On the football side, there was the old Baltimore Colts of the AAFC in the late 40s. The NFL Colts were actually once the New York Yankees before moving to Dallas. Then, they were the Dallas Texans, and the Colts name was revived when the team moved to Baltimore in 1953. Of course, the Colts name is a reference to the once thriving horse racing industry in Baltimore, so it makes little sense in Indianapolis.
